A fruit-seller had some apples.He sells 40% of them and still has 420 apples.Find the number of apples he had originally.

Fruit seller sells 40% of them.

So , he has 60% of them.

420 apples are 60% of the total apples .

We usually use the above formula to find the percentage .

percent = \frac{no. \: of \: apples \times 100}{total}

60 = \frac{420 \times 100}{total}

total = \frac{42000}{60}

total \: apples = 700
Therefore,
The total number of apples are 700.
