let the original number of apples be x
total percent of apples =100%
Sold apples =40%
Left apples = (100-40)%
==》》60%

60% of x= 420
x=(420*100)/60
x=700

Using formula :

★ Number of originally the fruit seller have = Number of apples left/Percentage of apples didn't sell × 100.

Calculations :

We know that, in a sum of overall 100% of apples he sells 40% of apples so we have to find the number of percentage he didn't sold.

→ 100% - 40%

→ 60% [He didn't sell]

Solution :

→ 420/60 × 100

→ 7 × 100

→ 700 apples

Therefore, the number of apples he original have is 700 apples.
