A fruit seller had some oranges .He sells 40% of his oranges and is still leaft with 420 oranges how many oranges he had in total

• Let the total number of oranges with the fruit seller be 'x'.

• Then, oranges sold by him -

= 40% of total

= 40% of x

= 40/100 × x

= 40x/100

= 2x/5

• Now, oranges remaining with him -

= total - oranges sold

= x - 2x/5

= (5x - 2x)/5

= 3x/5

• But, according to the question, the fruit seller has 420 oranges left with him.

=> 3x/5 = 420

=> x = 420 × 5/3

=> x = 140 × 5

=> x = 700

• So, total number of oranges with the fruit seller = x = 700
