Word Problem

Given:

  Number of plants = 500

Number of plants in each row is equal to  the number of rows

To Find:

The number of plants left out  in the arrangement.

Step-by-step explanation:

  • Total number of plants = 500
  • Let, the number of rows be x
  • Number of rows = Number of plants in each row
  • Total number of plants used is equal to x × x
  • So, we need a perfect square that is the product of two equal integers.
  • Hence 22 × 22 = 484 plants are used.
  • So, the number of plants left out of the arrangement is 500 - 484 = 16

Hence, number of plants left out of the arrangement is 16.
