Step-by-step explanation:

Given A garrison 6600 men had provisions for 64 days at the rate off 1700 g per head at the end of 14 days, a reinforcement arrives   and it was found that the provision will last 34 days more at the rate of 1650 g per head. what is the strength of the reinforcement?

  • 6600 men taking 1700 gms per head have provisions for (64 – 14) or 50 days
  • Now we need to find number of men taking 1650 gms each provisions for 34 days.
  • Now less provision per head then it will be more men
  • Less days more men (Indirect proportion)
  • Therefore Provision 1650 : 1700
  •                                                                       : : 6600 : m
  •                               Days   34 : 50
  •  Now 1650 x 34 x m = 1700 x 50 x 6600
  •                  Or m = 1700 x 50 x 6600 / 1650 x 34
  •                  Or m = 10,000
  • Therefore strength of reinforcement will be 10,000 – 6600 = 3,400
