Step-by-step explanation:

35 litre = 175/5 litre

23 3/5 litre = 118/5 litre

number of gas used = 118/5 litre

gas left = ( 175/5) (118 /5) = 57/5 litre

57/5 litre = 11 2/5 litre

The amount of gas left in gas cylinder = 11\frac{2}{5} liters.

Given:

A gas cylinder contains 35 litres of gas

23 \frac{3}{5} liters of gas is used

To find:

The remaining gas after using 23 \frac{3}{5} liters of gas

Solution:

From given data a gas cylinder contains 35 liters of gas and

23 \frac{3}{5} liters of gas is used

⇒ if we convert 23 \frac{3}{5} into a improper fraction then

23 \frac{3}{5} = \frac{118}{5} liters    [ ∵ 118 = (5 × 23) +3 ]

⇒ From the gas  cylinder \frac{118}{5} liters of gas is used

Remaining gas in cylinder = 35 liters -  \frac{118}{5} liters = \frac{175 - 118}{5} = \frac{57}{5} liters

Here,  \frac{57}{5} can be convert as 11\frac{2}{5} liters  [ ∵ 57 = (11×5) + 2 ]

Therefore, the amount of gas left in gas cylinder = 11\frac{2}{5} liters.
