Molecular weight of gas is - (a) 50

Molecular weight of gas and rate of diffusion of gas are related by Graham's law of diffusion.

The equation representing the relation is-

Rh2/Rg = √(Mg/Mh2)

Rh2 represents rate of diffusion of hydrogen gas, Rg represents rate of diffusion of gas in question.

Mg represents molecular weight of gas mentioned in question and Mh2 represents molecular weight of hydrogen gas which is 2g/mol.

Given in question is - Rg = 1/5Rh2

Keeping the values in formula-

Rh2/(1/5Rh2) = √(Mg/2)

5 = √(Mg/2)

25 = Mg*2

Mg = 50

Hence molecular weight of gas is 50 g/mol.
