a gas exerts pressure on the walls of the container coz of high kinetic energy n negligible forces of attraction the particles of gas moves with high speed in all direction. When the fast moving gas particles hit the walls of the container it exerts pressure... hope it helps

In the gaseous state the particle moves about randomy at high speed . Due to this random movement the particle heat each other and also the walls of the container because of this movement gas exert pressure on the walls of the container .
