A gas has an initial volume of 212 cm3 at a temperature of 293 K and a pressure of 0.98 atm. What is the final pressure of the gas if the volume decreases to 196 cm3 and the temperature of the gas increases to 308 K?

A gas has an initial volume of 212 cm3 at a temperature of 293 K and a pressure of 0.98 atm

P1 = 0.98 atm
V1 = 212 cm^3
T1 = 293 K

the volume decreases to 196 cm3 and the temperature of the gas increases to 308 K

V2 = 196 cm^3
T2 = 308 K
P2 = ?

We know from the ideal gas law

P1 . V1 / T1 = P2 . V2 / T2

0.98 × 212 / 293 = P2 × 196 / 308

P2 = 0.98×212/293 × 308/196

P2 = (0.98×212×308) / (196×293)

P2 = 1.11 atm

Final pressure of the gas is 1.11 atm.
