A gene locus has four alleles with frequencies of A1 (0.1). A2 (0 2), A3 (0.3) and A4 (0:4). What is the frequency of the A2A3 genotype in a population that is in Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium?

Answer:

Frequency of dominant allele (say p)=0.4

Frequency of recessive allele (say q) =1−0.4=0.6

∴ Frequency of homozygous dominant individuals (AA)

=p2=(0.4)2=0.16

Frequency of heterozygous individuals (Aa) =2pq=2(0.4)(0.6)=0.48

Frequency of homozygous recessive individuals(aa)

=q2=(0.6)2=0.36.

So, the correct answer is '0.16(AA);0.48(Aa);0.36(aa)'.
