let x be the no. of rows

no. of rows=no.of men in each row=x

a/q

x^2=8500-36
x^2=8464
x= root 8464
x=92

no. of rows=no. of soldiers in each row= 92

2. it displays the discipline and strictness of the general.

Total soldiers is equal to 8500

soldiers left out is equal to 36
Soilders involved in arranging the lines =8500-36=8464
No of rows and columns =
 \sqrt{8464}
92
