Let the age of the girl be x.
According to the question,
After 4 years,
The age of the girl = x + 4.
The age of her sister = 2x + 4.
According to the question,
Solving the equation,
By splitting the middle term,
So, age of the girl can be 6 years old or - 12 years old.
But we know that age can never be negative.
So, The age of the girl is 6 years old and her sister is 2x = 2 * 6 = 12 years old.

A girl is twice as old as her sister. Four years hence, the product of their ages (in years) will be 160. Find their present ages .
Let,
- Age of Girl = x years .
- Age of her sister = 2x years .
- After Four years, Age of girl = (x+4)
- After Four Years, Age of her sister = (2x+4)
But, Age is always in positive,
Then, X = -12 is negligible
So, We take X = 6
