(a) Copper is used to make hot water tanks and not steel because the iron is more reactive then copper..also it reacts with hot steel to produce ferrosoferric oxide dur to which the body of tank will become weaker and weaker while copper does not react with hot water.
(b) due to the formation of a thin layer of oxide.Carbonate and sulphide on their surface by the slow action of the various gases present in air.
