b) box stays at rest as the applied for ce is nit being able to beat the frictional force between the block and the surface it is restin upon meaning that the applied force in both the cases is less than the static friction between the block and the surface.
c)direction of friction in all the cased will be to the opposite of applied force... in a and b static friction is present and in c limiting friction which instantly changes to kinetic friction is present.
