A grassy plot is 100m × 80m. Two cross - path of 5m width are constructed at right angles through the centre of the field and parallel to the sides of the plot. Find the total area used as path.

If two cross roads each of width 'w' units , run at right angles through the centre of rectangular path of length 'l' units and breadth 'b' units , then
the area of total path =(width of path)(length of the park + breadth of the park -width of path)
=w(l+b-w)
Using this formula
From given data
l=100m
b=80m
w=5m
Area of the total path=w(l+b-w)
=5(100+80-5)
=5×175
=875 square meters
