Answer: c) 2.92 hrs

Step-by-step explanation:

Work of wade in 1 hr = 1/7

Work of rhonda in 1 hr = 1/5

Work of wade and rhonda together in 1hr = 1/7 + 1/5

= (5 + 7)/35

= 12/35

Time taken by wade and rhonda together to complete the work = 35/12 = 2.92

Answer:

It will take 2.92 hours to paint a room with Wade and Rhonda working together.

GIVEN:

  • Time taken by Wade to paint the room is 7 hours
  • Time taken by Rhonda to paint the room is 5 hours

TO FIND:

How long will it take them working together to paint the room?

SOLUTION:

So, to find the no. of hours required with them working together to paint a room, first we have to find out the amount of work they can do individually in one hour.

Amount of room Wade can paint in 1 hour =  \frac{1}{7}

Amount of room Rhonda can paint in 1 hour = \frac{1}{5}

Amount of room both Wade and Rhonda can paint in 1 hour = \frac{1}{7}+\frac{1}{5}

By making common denominator,

                                                                                                    =\frac{7+5}{35}

Amount of room both Wade and Rhonda can paint in 1 hour =\frac{12}{35}

So ,

Time taken to paint  \frac{12}{35} part of room by both Wade and Rhonda (in hours)= 1

Time taken to paint  1 part(whole) of room by both Wade and Rhonda(in hours)= \frac{35}{12}

Time taken to paint  1 part(whole) of room by both Wade and Rhonda(in hours)= 2.92

Hence 2.92 hours will be required by both Wade and Rhonda to paint a certain room together.
