The answer is operon. Operon is a functional unit of genomic DNA containing cluster of genes controlled by a promoter. Other parts of an operon are operator, repressor, inducer, inhibitor, structural genes which produces functional protein. Example of Operon are Lac operon and Trp operon. Unicellular organisms like E.coli has polycistronic operon since they have single DNA. Multicellular organisms have monocistronic operon. Polycistronic operon has several genes in a single structural unit.
