Total money = Rs 976 1/2 = (mixed fraction converted to—) Rs 1953/2. Now, each student contributes= Rs 61 1/2= (mixed fraction converted to —) Rs 123/2. Therefore, total no. of students=Rs (1953/2÷123/2) = 15.87; rounding off 15.87 to 16. [Ans] — There were 16 students (approx).

Total contribution = Rs 9761/2 = Rs 976.5
Contribution per student = Rs 611/2 = Rs 61.5
No. of students  = Total contribution/contribution per student
                          = 976.5/61.5
                          = 15.87
                          ≈ 16
