Present age of Raj and Ram is in the ratio 1:3. After 5 years Ram's age will be 2 years more than twice of Raj's age. Find their present ages.

Let the present age of Raj is x years and that of Ram is y years. Then,
x/y=1/3
or, y=3x -----------(1)
According to the given question,
y+5=2(x+5)+2
or, y+5=2x+10+2
or, 3x+5=2x+12 [using (1)]
or, 3x-2x=12-5
or, x=7
∴, y=3×7=21
∴, Raj is 7 years old and Ram is 21 years old.
