Total momentum before firing the gun = Total momentum after gun fire

1500kg×0+50kg×0 = 1500kg×V+50kg×250 m/s

0 = 1500V+12500

1500V = -12500

V = -25/3 m/s.

impulse exerted by shot on the gun =

change in momentum of the gun

= 1500kg x (0+25/3)m/s

= 1500x25/3 kgm/s
