A hall of 15 m by 13 m has a white marble floor. A red carpet is laid in the centre of
the hall leaving 50 cm border area all around. Find the area and perimeter of the
carpet.

Dimensions of the white marble floor of the hall:

Length = 15 m

Breadth = 13 m

The width of the border is given as = 50 cm = 0.5 m

Therefore,  the dimensions of the red carpet laid at the centre of the hall:

Length of carpet = 15 – (2*0.5) = 14 m

Breadth of carpet = 13 – (2*0.5) = 12 m

Thus,  the area of the carpet = [Length of carpet] * [Breadth of carpet] = 14 * 12 = 168 m²

And,

The perimeter of the carpet = 2 * [length + breadth] = 2 * [14+12] = 52 m
