The rigid wires get broken down while turning and twisting because their atoms are not capable to roll over each other in order to form a new shape without breaking the metallic bond in between the atoms. In simple words we can also say that the materials of these hard wires are not ductile which means that they cannot be pulled out into wires. So, in terms of elasticity we can say that stiff wires are less elastic in nature.
