A hollow metal sphere is filled with water and a small hole is made at its bottom .It is hanging by a long thread and is made to oscillate .How will the time Period change if water is allowed to flow through the hole till the sphere is empty?

The time period will be same when the sphere is empty.

Explanation:

  • First time period will increase till the time water is present in sphere.
  • When it completely get empty time period will become original T.
  • When it was completely filled with water.

As we know that:

l1 < l2' > l3

l1 = l3

  • When water is coming out then the length of pendulum will increase.
  • Therefore time period will also increase.
  • When it is completely filled, time period will again be same.

Thus the time period will be same when the sphere is empty.
