Given,

The larger hose can fill the swimming pool in 9 hours.

The smaller hose can fill the swimming pool in 18 hours.

To find,

The total time that the both hose will take to fill the pool, if they work together.

Solution,

We wheel as you that the total amount of the swimming pool is 1, to simplify the mathematical calculation.

The bigger hose,

Can fill in 9 hours = 1

Can fill in 1 hour = 1/9

The smaller hose,

Can fill in 18 hours = 1

Can fill in 1 hour = 1/18

Together they can fill in 1 hour = 1/9 + 1/18 = 2+1/18 = 3/18 = 1/6 of the pool

Together, they can fill 1/6 of the pool in = 1 hour

Together, they can fill 1 of the pool in = 6 hours

Hence, together the both hose will take 6 hours in total, to fill the swimming pool.
