a hot plate of electric oven connected to a 220 volts line has two resistance coils A and B, each of 24 ohm resistance which may used separately in series or in parallel. what are the current in the three cases

1. If only one coil is used :    R = 24 ohms
   So current = potential difference / resistance = 220 / 24 = 9.16 amp
2.  if the two coils are connected in series,
     the effective resistance is  24+24 = 48 Ohm
     current = 220 / 48 = 4.58 amp
3. if the two coils are in parallel,  effective R =  24/2 = 12 ohms
   current = 220/12 = 18.33  amp
