(a) and:- Alkaline earth metals are greyish white in colour and harder than the alkali metals.

(b) and:- The electronic configuration of the first two alkaline earth metals are-

i) Beryllium (Be)
K shell = 2,
L shell = 2.

ii) Magnesium (Mg)
K shell =2,
L shell = 8,
M shell = 2.
