Cloud-to-ground lightning comes from the sky down, but the part you see comes from theground up. A typical cloud-to-groundflash lowers a path of negative electricity (that we cannot see) towards the ground in a series of spurts. Objects on the groundgenerally have a positive charge.
This is where most volcanoes are too. However, most earthquakes are caused by the interaction of the plates not the movement of magma . Most earthquakes directly beneath a volcano are caused by the movement of magma. The magma exerts pressure on the rocks until it cracks the rock.
