Spermatogenesis in humans

Explanation:

a) The difference between spermatogenesis and oogenesis with respect to the growth till puberty is given below:

  • Spermatogenesis:
  • It takes place in males throughout life starting from puberty.
  • A single spermatogonium produces 4 haploid sperms after the second meiotic division.
  • Spermatogenesis is completed in testes and produces 4 haploid sperms.
  • oogenesis :
  • It starts before birth during embryonic development and takes place up to menopause.
  • A single oogonium produces one functional ovum after the second meiotic division and two non-functional polar bodies.
  • The second meiotic division is completed in oviduct after the entry of sperms in secondary oocyte.

b)  Sectional view of human ovary with labels are attached .
