A hydrogen atom has 1 electron only and so it is unpaired. Paramagnetism arises due to the presence of unpaired electrons.

In hydrogen atom, the electron is present in 1s orbital.

so electronic configuration is 1s1

In hydrogen molecule, the two atoms share their electrons to complete their duplet and get 1s2 configuration.

thus, there are 2 paired electrons in hydrogen molecule and it is diamagnetic.

hope this helps!
