a = 5 , b = 12  if  a²  + b²   = 13²

Step-by-step explanation:

if a²  + b²   = 13

a = 2   &  b = 3    satisfy this

as 2² + 3² = 4 + 9 = 13

Using the information in (a), construct a right angled triangle with hypotenuse 13 cm.

Then Question should have been    a²  + b²   = 13²

then from Pythagorean triplet we know that

13  = (a² + 1)/2 or (b² + 1)/2

=> a² or b² = 25

=> a or b = 5

if a = 5 then  5² + b² = 13²

=> b² = 144

=> b = 12

5 & 12 are values of a & b such that

5² + 12² = 13²

Draw a line segment 5 cm

Draw a perpendicular at on end and take length = 12 cm

Now hypotenuse would be 13 cm
