a.) If the fixed charges of auto rickshaw be Rs x and the charge per
kilometre de Rs y km/h, the pair of linear equations representing the
situation is:
(i) x + 10y = 110, x + 15 y = 75
(u) 10x + y = 110, 15x + y = 75
(i) x + 10y = 75, x + 15y = 110
(iv) 10x + y = 75, 15x + y = 110

Given :  fixed charges of auto rickshaw be Rs. x and the running charges per km Rs.   y  /km

To Find : the pair of linear equations representing the situation is

(a) x+10y = 110 & x+15y = 75

(b) x+10y = 75 & x+15y =110

(c) 10x+y=110 & 15x+y=75

(d) 10x + y = 75 & 15.x + y = 110

Solution :

fixed charges of auto rickshaw  = x  Rs

running charges  of auto rickshaw  = y  Rs /km

 d =  distance in km

Charges will be of form =   x  +  dy   where d  > 0  , x , y > 0

as charges and distance can not be negative

Two Such Equations are :

x+10y = 110 & x+15y = 75

=> 5y = -35

=>  y = - 7

Hence not possible

x+10y = 75 & x+15y =110

=> 5y = 35

=> y = 7

x+10y = 75

=> x + 70 = 75

=> x = 5

Hence   5  + 7d   are charges

x+10y = 75 & x+15y =110  is the pair of linear equations representing the situation  for d = 10 and 15
