(a)If the image formed by a mirror for all positions of the object placed in front of it is always
diminished, erect and virtual, state the type of the mirror and also draw a ray diagram to justify your
answer. Write one use such mirrors are put to and why?

Answer:

A. The mirror is a convex mirror as convex mirror always forms an image which is virtual, erect and diminished, when the object is placed in front of the mirror.

In vehicles: Convex mirrors are used as rear-view mirrors in vehicles because the image obtained with the help of convex mirror is highly diminished in size and helps the driver of the vehicle to view the traffic in much larger area behind the vehicle.

B. The distance between the center of curvature and pole of a spherical mirror is called radius of curvature.

given radius of curvature = +24

focal length = radius of curvature/2

f = +24/2 = +12

focal length is positive as we known that positive sign signify convex mirror.

The nature of spherical mirror is convex mirror
