The sole reason is "DENSITY"

Concept:
Those materials which have lower density than water floats and those which have greater density than water sinks.

Answer:
In this case although both are made up of same material i.e. Iron, but due to hollow space in lower part of the ship, it's overall density get lowered than water and it floats.
