A is four years younger than b, if there age ratio are 7:9 then what a present age

Let, the ages of A and B are x years and y years respectively.

Given that,

x : y = 7 : 9 .....(i)

and

x = y - 4 .....(ii)

If a be the common multiple of (i), then

x = 7a years and y = 9a years.

From (ii), we get

7a = 9a - 4

or, 2a = 4

or, a = 2.

Hence, the present age of A and B are 14 years and 18 years respectively.
