A is twice as good a workman as b and together they complete a work in 12 days. In how many days a alone can do the work?

(A+B)=12 days

work =1

then it complete work in 1/12 days.

this can also be written as...

x+2x=1/12

3x=1/12

x=1/36

Let's multiply both the equation by 2.

2x=1/36

x=18

Thus A alone can do a work in 18 days.
