Question:

A jeweller sells two rings at ₹2400.00 each. On selling the first ring, he earns a profit of 20% while he loses 20% on selling the second ring. What is his net loss or gain% on selling the two rings?

Solution:

When S. P. of the first ring is ₹ 120,its C. P. = ₹100

When S. P. of the first ring is ₹2400.00,its C. P.=

 \frac{100}{120} \times 240 = 2000.00

And, when S. P. of second ring is ₹ 80,its C. P. =₹100

So, when S.P. of second ring is ₹ 2400,its C. P. = ₹3000.00

Total C. P. of two rings = ₹(2000.00+3000.00) = ₹5000.00

Total S. P. of two rings= ₹2400.00×2= ₹4800.00

Net Loss = ₹(5000.00-4800.00)=₹200.00

Loss% =

 \frac{200}{5000} \times 100 = 4\%
