Junior colleague: Good morning sir.
Me: Good morning Mary.
Mary: Again, sir, I have a request to make.
Me: What could be the issue?
Mary: I need to take a leave again. I know this might be too much to ask but I really need this.
Me: Mary you know this is the third time you are asking for a leave. Are you going through a problem? Is there anything we can do to help you.
Mary: Well, as I had told you earlier, my daughter, she is still very sick, she was diagnosed with severe pneumonia. I am the only one available to take care of her- her dad traveled to China last month and he is yet to travel back.
Me: Mary you know you are this company’s administrator and we really need you. However, if your daughter is as sick as you say she is, then all we can do is grant you the leave so that you can go and take care of her.
Mary: Thank you so much sir, God bless you so much for your understanding.
Me: You are welcome. All I will ask you to do is to delegate all your duties, before you can leave, to the assistant administrator, and make sure he has everything he needs so that we can continue operations even in your absence.
Mary: I will surely do that. In fact I am getting right to that.
Me: That is good to hear. You may leave as soon as you are done. Please go take care of your daughter but as soon as she is well make sure you report back to work. One more thing, I will talk to everyone here to see whether we can organize to visit your sick daughter, say, over the weekend.
Mary: That would just be great. You are far too kind sir, again, thank you so much.
Me: You are welcome. All the best with your daughter and I wish her a quick recovery
