Let us assume that the height of kite from the ground be = x feet. (height )

therefore , by using Pythagoras theorem

=> (distance on the ground)^2 + (height of the kite from the ground)^2= (length of the string)^2

=> (400)^2 + (x)^2 = (500)^2

=> (x)^2 = (500)^2 - (400)^2

=> (x)^2 = (500 - 400) ( 500 + 400 ) [ a^2 - b^2 = (a+b) (a- b)

=> (x)^2 = 100 × 900

=> (x)^2 = 90000

=> x = √90000

=> x = 300 feet
