Correct Question :

A laborer is engaged for 20 days on the condition that he will receive 200 rupees for each day he works and will be fined 10 rupees for each day he is absent.

If he received 1880 rupees in all for how many days he was absent ?

Solution:

Let us assume that the number of days he was absent is x.

So, the number of days he worked : ( 20 - x )

For each day he works, he receives Rs. 200

For each day he is absent , he is fined Rs. 10

Hence, the following linear equation can be formed :

200 ( 20 - x ) - 10x = 1880

> 4000 - 200 x - 10 x = 1880

> 210 x = 4000 - 1880

> 210 x = 2120

> x = 10 days approximately .

This is the required answer.
