A ladder 17 m long reaches a window which is 8 above the ground on one side of a street keeping its foot at the same point , the ladder is turned to the other side of the street to reach a window 15m high. Find the with of the street.​

Distance between ground and window is 8m

In triangle ABC

 {ab}^{2}  +  {bc}^{2}  =  {ac}^{2}  \\  {8}^{2}  +  {bc}^{2}  =  {17}^{2}  \\  {bc}^{2}  = 64 \\ bc = 8m

From the second diagram

height of the ladder is 17m

Distance between ground and window is 15m

In triangle PQR

 {pq}^{2}  +  {qr}^{2}  =  {pr}^{2}  \\  {15}^{2}  +  {qr}^{2}  =  {17}^{2}  \\  {qr}^{2}  = 64 \\ qr = 8m

Width of the street is 8m.
