a ladder 17m long reaches a window on a well, which is 8m above the ground, on one side to the street. find the distance of the foot of the ladder from the wall.​

Distance from ground to window = 8m

Distance from the foot of the ladder and the wall = ?

By Pythagoras theorem

=(17)2 + (x)2 = (8)2

=289 + (x)2 = 64

=(x)2 = 289-64

=(x)2 = 225

=x = square root of 225

x=15

so, distance from the foot of the ladder and the wall is 15m.
