A ladder 17m long reaches a window which is 8m above the ground, on side of the street. Keeping it foot at the same point the ladder is turned to other side of the street to reach a roof at the height of 15m. Find the width of the street.

   AB²+BP²= AP² (PYTHAGOREAN THEOREM)

⇒8²+BP²=17²

⇒BP²=17²-8²

⇒BP²=289-64

⇒BP=√225

⇒BP=15m

In Δ CDP,

   CD²+DP²=CP²

⇒15²+DP²=17²

⇒DP²=17²-15²

⇒DP²=289-225

⇒DP=√64

⇒DP=8m

Length of street =BP+DP

                           =8m+15m
