hi buddy ! i was doing this question few days ago (7th grade).....well the ans is:

the ladder , wall with window and ground forms a right angled triangle.

its one side and hypotenuse is given we have to find another

hypotenuse= (side1)^2+(side2)^2  , (by PYTHAGORAS THEOREM)

but we have to find a side so, here starts main steps:-

(10^2) - (8^2) = x^2

  100 + 64 = x^2

          164 = x^2

root of 164 = 12.806= x

hence the distance between ladder and the window is of 12.806

(it is imperfect root so there is more no. ahead but that is inconsiderable)
