A large plane sheet of charge having a surface charge density of 5 x 10-6 C/m2 lies in xy-plane.Find the electric flux through a circular area of radius 0.1 m if the normal to the circular area makes an angle of 60o with the z-axis.

surface charge density on large plane sheet is \sigma=5\times10^{-6}C/m^2

so, electric field due to plane sheet, E= \frac{\sigma}{2\epsilon_0}

= 5 × 10^-6/(2×8.85× 10^-12)

= (5/17.7) × 10^6 N/C

area of circular plane sheet , A = πr²

= π(0.1m)² = 0.01π m²

a/c to question,

the normal to the circular area makes an angle of 60° with the z-axis.

means, angle between electric field and area vector is 60°

so, electric flux through circular sheet = E.Acos60°

= (5/17.7) × 10^6 × 0.01π × 1/2N/C

= 4.44kV
