a laser beam can be used to obtain sustained interference with the path difference of many meters. Why is this not possible in conventional sources of light?​

In order to obtain sustained interference, the two interfering sources must be coherent i.e. they must have a constant phase difference. The sources must also emit the light of same wavelength and time period.

The conventional sources of light are not coherent and the light emitted by them are of different wavelengths. Therefore, it is not possible to obtain a sustained interference in covnentional sources of light.
