A life lesson that I learned the hard way is to never allow someone who is not a tax professional do your taxes even though they seemed trustworthy. It all happened back in January of this year, I was filing my taxes for my first time and I was so confused, so I allowed my then co-worker and neighbor help me by filing my taxes for me. Looking back, I now realize how bad of an idea that was. In the beginning, I thought they did everything by the book to file my taxes. They said I would not be getting a refund because it went to my student loans and I assumed this was true because I owed for student loans for when I was previously in college. I knew something was wrong when I requested forms from the IRS for school and they informed me I was providing the wrong address than the one they had on file. So, I asked the person about it and they fed me lies and said that they would do a change of address form and have the IRS send me a transcript. I waited for months for it and nothing ever arrived. The next red flag came when the coronavirus pandemic started, and the government said that everyone would receive a stimulus check. Once the government announced it, I checked every day to see when I would receive my check until it said that it was being deposited into a checking account that I did not recognize. I confronted the person who filed my taxes, and they said that was a checking account linked with the TurboTax card that I should have received.

2. Lesson learned: Does the writer use any overt announcements, such as, “I learned…” The active, descriptive text should show a clear lesson without explicitly announcing to the audience the lesson learned. Paste any unnecessary “announcement” sentences here:
