We take ratio 18:30::12:X (X=children)
So 18/30=12/X after cross multiplying
We get 18x=360 and hence X=20
Hope it helps

Find the ratio of children for 1 adult:

18 adults = 30 children

1 adult = 30 ÷ 18

1 adult = 5/3 children

Find the remaining space:

There are 12 adults in the lift

There are still space for 18 - 12 = 6 adults

Find the number of children that the lift can take:

1 adult = 5/3 children

6 adult = 5/3 x 6 = 10 children

Answer: 10 children can board
