A lift is designed to carry a load of 4000 kg through 10 floors of a building averaging 6 m per floor in 10 seconds. calculate the horse power of the lift.

Height => 10 * 6 => 60m

Mass => 4000kg and let g = 10m/s^2

Therefore , force => mg => 4000*10=> 400000N

So, work done => force * displacement

=> 40000*60 => 2400000J

Time taken => 10 sec

Therefore power => 2400000/10 => 240000W

Therefore horse power => 240000/746
=> 321.7 J
