Given - Speed of light (c) and refractive index (n)

Find - Speed of light in another medium (v)

Solution - Speed of light with respect to refractive index is always given by the formula -

n = c/v. In the formula, n refers to refractive index, c refers to speed of light in vacuum and V refers to speed of light in any medium.

Speed of light in another medium is always less than speed of light in vacuum. Hence, the value of refractive index is either 1 or more than 1.

According to given formula -

v = c/n.

Since c is constant and has value 3*10⁸ m/s, v = 3*10⁸/n.

Hence, speed of light in another medium will be - 3*10⁸/n m/s.
