a liquid has its boiling point above the room temp whereas a gas has its boiling point below the room temp. Why?

Take for example water.its melting point(0 degree celcius).so at room temperature it is a liquid.but iron's melting point is above room temperature. so it is a solid.similarly oxygen is a gas at room temperature coz its melting as well as boiling point is below room temperature

The boiling point of a liquid depends on the intermolecular forces present between the atoms or molecules in the liquid since you must disrupt those forces to change from a liquid to a gas. The stronger the intermolecular forces, the higher the boiling point. And due to the difference in the intermolecular forces in liquid and gas both have different boiling points.
